Time for People With Lyme or Autoimmune Disease to FALL UP!

Hi Everyone. Well I am happy that Fall is starting here in CT. Fall is a time of change and preparation for the winter. It is a time to clear all of the insanity from the summer and toxins from your body. It is also a spiritual time for many people including myself and a time to connect with nature and energy all around you.

My summer was far from calm and balanced. Rather I had my last child graduate and leave for college, a host of family issues, a barrage of dealings with the western medical machine resulting in surgery, and the death of my most beloved Saint Bernard, Buford. Yes, I can say other then dealing with a death sentence and neurological Lyme disease many years ago this was one of the most challenging summers I have ever had in my life. I am sharing this with you because I think it is important to realize we are always in a constant state of change, healing, and learning. I have learned a great deal this summer about myself. So, what did I learn as I move into the Fall:

  1. I learned to put myself on the list of the people/animals that I need to care for. Many of us grow up in an environment where we never feel truly safe or loved for many reasons. Our past experiences and current responsibilities lead us to a place where we take care of everyone and everything around us without taking care of ourselves. I am classic for doing this in my own life. I have justified that behavior by saying… “I do not have time to focus on myself” or “taking care of others makes me happy.” Both of those things are very true but they also can lead to a place where you are out of balance. This imbalance can show up in any area of your life and in my case, I believe it manifested itself into Achalasia. Now hearing you need to put yourself first…blah blah blah never is going to happen for me because it is not in my DNA. BUT I have NOW put myself on the list of the people that I need to take care of. This is actually life changing for me and I hope that others will do the same.

  1. I need to make time to do things to recharge. What I mean by this is that I need to take time to spend with people I care about, do things that nourish my creative abilities, and spend time AWAY from my house and work. I know that I am a workaholic with an extremely LOW boredom threshold. I like to keep busy and I love to challenge myself. But I also love being in touch with nature, animals and creating beautiful things. Trust me I like my alone time and need it…but I also love the interaction with other people and with nature.

  1. I need to laugh! I just love to laugh and smile and I know that when I do the entire world feels like a much better place to live in. I think my ability to see humor in myself and my surroundings has literally kept me alive at times.

  1. I need to continue my education. As I mentioned before I have a nonexistent boredom threshold and feel very strongly that we know the equivalent of a grain of sand on the beach. That being said, I need to constantly be learning something or I actually get anxiety. Some would say I collect degrees/certifications but I do not even tell anyone about most of them. Rather I just really like to learn new things and use them to help others and to help myself grow.

  1. I need to spend more time reconnecting with my spiritual beliefs. I truly believe that we are all here to learn and use the gifts that we were each given. I think most people lose track of those gifts and their intuition with themselves, family and their surroundings. I think we lose sight of why we are here as we function at 100mph in today’s society. My wish is to become more enlightened as I get older. I believe that as we become more enlightened, we also can find our inner purpose and truly love. This seems very complicated but it is not. Rather it is just taking the time out of our busy lives to love ourselves.

  1. Balance my energy. This goes with my continued goal of improved lifestyle changes. I am very aware with how toxic food, people, and the environment impact my life. I will continue to make the necessary changes to achieve balance within myself. Sometimes these changes just require an attitude shift!

  1. Lastly, I need to continue to use my strengths to help others IN MY OWN WAY because it feeds my soul. I cannot begin to explain how I feel when I hear that I saved an animal’s life or how a person that was unable to work is now thriving. Nothing touches me more than feeling the positive energy given off when I help another living being. I have never chosen a work path because of money so I do not intend to start now. I can only work intensively with a handful of people/animals because there is not enough time to take an individualized approach. I do not treat living beings like SHEEP and treat others the way I wish to be treated myself. I treat the people I work with as family. This may not be the greatest business model but it is the one that works for me.

I do believe we are here for a reason and we must make the most out of the time we are here. Whether it is spending time growing herbs, taking care of my animals, or consulting with others to help improve their lives….it is grounding and fills me with a sense of peace. As I “DORK OUT” looking towards my future I can tell you that I am okay and excited to continue my life’s journey. I am also very blessed to share this with so many people that are on their own life’s journeys. We can all live, love, and grow with an inner peace.
